Friday 11th October - walks ***** – Around Felixstowe – cloudy day then clearing in time for the Aurora:).

Walk 1 – Felixstowe Ferry.

I drove down to Felixstowe Ferry at 8.15 to take some weather pics, even had some sunshine before it clouded over for most of the day! The Deben looked as lovely as usual and then home for breakfast as we were looking after Maeva for the day.

Walk 2 – Felixstowe prom.

Maeva arrived with her Mum around midday, she brought yummy cheese bread for lunch, Maeva opened some late Christmas presants from my sister. Dan her Dad then arrived and I could open my birthday presants from them, a fantastic electric blanket I can use while watching TV in the evening and a small digital camera I can use with Maeva. Despite the gloomy cold day Maeva needed a sleep so Mag and I took her out in the buggy for a walk, heading to the clifftop and along to the Spa Theatre via the gardens, we thenstrolled along the prom, it even rained for a while. We had to walk all the way to the news café just past Beach Road as we could not get off the prom as all the flood gates are now shut:( Then back through Lager Park and home via Lidl for a warming cuppa and cake. Dan picked Jay up after work and they headed off to Ipswich to see a comedian:)

Walk 3 – Gulpher Road and the Ferry again.

We then had tea with Maeva and there was a great chance to see the Northern lights again but it was cloudy but it did start to clear so I headed out at 9. I drove down Gulher Road as there are a couple of trees I wanted to photograph against the coloured sky, there was someone parked at my first spot so I continued to the pond where I turned round and spotted a muntjac deer in the headlights of a car. I returned to the corner and walked across a muddy rutted field to get my first Aurora, some lovely coloured green sky. I then continued to the farm track leading to the Grove, seeing a fox on the way, and to fiish the wildlife theme I saw a barn owl, what a great night so far! This was an easier field to walk across and again I got a nice pic, then I stepped on my cable release which parted from my camera in the dark, I must take a torch with me next time! I could not find a torch in the van so had to drive my van into the field a little way to use the headlights, I was lucky to find the cable release so I could continue to Felixstowe Ferry! It was surprisingly quiet there, it got very busy later when I was leaving! At this point you could actually see the red light in the sky, maybe because there was some wispy clouds in the sky! I had a wonderful hour or so walking round the boatyard getting some lovely pics, it was a shame that there was people in the rented house by the tenders as they had every light in the place on but still managed to get a few nice picks:) On the way out I stopped near the Martello tower to get another nice pic at 10.20 before heading for home with a steady stream of cars going down to the Ferry, sadly at this point you could not see the lights with the naked eye:(
I the was up to 1.30 sorting out my pics, Maeva was sound on Mag when I got home so she missed all the action. Then when she was picked up up her mum and dad she had a coughing fit and was sick all over her dad, I think she is feeling better today!
So what a top day and the Northern Lights are now being seen pretty regularly in the UK now!
